Gas Safe Registered

This means that whenever a gas engineer carries out work on your property, by law they must be on the Gas Safe Register.
Gas safety in the home and workplace is not something you can compromise. If you don’t have your gas appliances checked by a
Gas Safe registered engineer you are risking your life. The Gas Safe Register exists to ensure gas safety for you, your family and your property.

FAQs

Can You Smell Gas?

Don’t turn light switches on or off, don't use doorbells, mobile phones or any other electrical switches which could cause a spark.

Open doors and windows.

Check if a pilot light has gone out.

If any gas appliances have been left on, turn them off.

If the pilot light is still on and your gas appliances are all off, there may be a gas escape.

Turn off the gas at the mains, which is usually a lever near the meter.

Don’t smoke, light a match or use any other naked flame.

Phone the National Gas Emergencies number immediately on 0800 111 999.  Only use a mobile phone from outside the property.

If your gas mains tap is in an outside meter box, make sure you know where the key is.  If you don’t already have a key, phone us on 0800 0807 24 7

Elizabeth, Nottingham

Q: When I turn on my heating it doesn't get as hot as it did before and it was fine before the plumber serviced it.

A: Try turning the up the temperature knob on the boiler. Sometimes when servicing a boiler we need to turn the temperature knob up and down. It may have not been turned back to where it was before.

DHSL would like to point out Elizabeths' Back Boiler Service was not completed by Dormouse employee. This will not stop us from answering your questions.

Q:  I am thinking of having a new fire put in and I've been told by someone at the pub that it's not possible to put the gas pipe under the concrete floor. Is this true?

A: Short answer NO. There are many rules and regulations concerning where you can and cannot put a gas pipe. In this case it is possible although certain conditions need to be met.

In all cases contact someone from the Gas Safe Register rather than someone from the pub.

Q: My radiators aren't warming up properly, they're hot at the bottom and cold at the top.

A: You are getting air or hydrogen gas (from corrosion) trapped in your radiators. You need to establish if it is air or hydrogen in your radiator.

If you have air in your radiators then you may have a leak in your pipework or you may have air being drawn in from the 'overflow' pipe.

If you have hydrogen gas in your radiators this is an indication that you have internal corrosion in your heating system. This can be dealt with by the use of corrosion preventing chemcials or a powerflush.
